‘Lotus’ to vie at Australia filmfest

Australia film festival is to host Iranian doc ‘Lotus’.

Iranian documentary film ‘Lotus’ has been scheduled to compete at Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA) in Melbourne.

Directed by Mohammad-Reza Vatandoust, the documentary depicts the life of an old woman who has been waiting for 12 years to get permission to enter an island and meet its only resident.

‘Lotus’ has so far attended the National competition section and the Shahid Avini Award Competition section at the 11th Iran International Documentary Film Festival of Cinema Verite, the 24th LA Film Festival in the US, the 21st Cervino Cinemountain International Film Festival in Italy, as well as the 25th Sheffield International Documentary Festival and the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society (Poly) in the UK.

The Iranian doc has previously bagged awards at the 16th Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in the US and the 18th Beirut International Film Festival in Lebanon.

EFFA is Australia’s only festival which focuses on the films that their subject is related to environmental issues. Filmmakers from around the world are invited to take part at the festival and showcase their works.

The 2019 edition of EFFA is held from October 24 to November 1.
